Video: Snake Strangles Bird to Avoid Being Eaten

As far as natural defenses go, there are probably few methods better than strangling the predator trying to eat you. After all, they can’t exactly eat you if they’re dead.
According to the video below, these hikers in Minas Gerais, Brazil found a snake and a bird locked in a life-or-death battle after the bird tried to gobble up the slithery creature. The snake responded by wrapping itself around the bird’s neck and attempting to strangle it.
It was doing pretty well until the hikers arrived. The men were able to provoke the snake into leaving after prodding it with a stick and hawk flew off—probably with a newfound ophidiophobia. Maybe the critter had picked up some tips from a local Brazilian jiu-jitsu dojo?
