Iraqveteran8888 Sets a Russian AK on Fire in New Ultimate Meltdown Video

Ever wonder how many rounds you’d have to shoot through an AK before it becomes completely engulfed in flames? Wonder no longer, as Iraqveteran8888 has the answer in the video below.

Eric from IV8888 and his crew used a Russian-made Vepr rifle chambered in 7.62x39mm legally converted to fire in full auto by Definitive Arms for this test. Veprs are built using the same machines that manufacture the light machine gun variant of the Kalashnikov. They feature heavier-duty barrels and receivers and are more likely to survive tortuously extended periods of fire.

The gun lasts for just under 900 rounds before Eric calls the test and decides not to fire any more. The entire process is fascinating to watch, particularly when the wooden handguard catches fire. Check out the entire video below. If you want to learn more about Definitive Arms and the AKs they make, read my story on building an AK with them here.

IV8888 has done two other meltdown tests on similar firearms. Their test of an AR-15 is shown below:

And a meltdown with a cheaper variant of an AK, a WASR, went off less smoothly than the Vepr test:

I've been a history and gun enthusiast since I was a kid. I love to shoot just about anything, from silenced bolt-action .22s to fully automatic heavy machine guns, and I love even more when I get to write about them. My main interests are modern small arms and the military small arms of World War II and prior conflicts, with a particular focus on Russian and Finnish firearms. Reading about guns like the Mosin-Nagant rifle in books and on the internet got me interested in collecting, shooting, and writing about them, and I hope to do the same for others through my work.
