Video: Shooting the “Most Powerful Handgun in Canada”
OutdoorHub Reporters 12.21.15
By now we have all seen at least one video of someone having a very hard time handling a revolver chambered in .500 S&W Magnum. This custom, single-shot 12 gauge handgun might be able to give the .500 some competition in the “uncontrollable recoil” department.
The shooters in this video work their way up to heavier loads and you can actually see the visible increase in recoil. While this might be the most powerful handgun in Canada, it’s probably not even close to the most powerful handgun on the world.
Out of a full-length barrel, a powerful 12 gauge round can produce almost 3,000 foot-pounds of energy. However, that energy is greatly reduced by the incredibly short barrel on this pistol. For reference, out of an 8.3-inch barrel, .500 S&W Magnum produces about 2,800 foot-pounds at the muzzle, so its title as the king of handguns is still mostly unchallenged.
