Update from Wolf: More 6.5 Grendel Veprs Coming in March
Matt Korovesis 01.19.16
One of the most unique firearms to hit the market in 2015 was the 6.5 Grendel Vepr rifle imported by Wolf Performance Arms, Ammunition, and Optics. Veprs are high-end, AK-pattern rifles built on light machine gun tooling in Russia. Models chambered in 5.45x39mm, 7.62x39mm, 5.56x45mm, .308, and 7.62x54mmR have been imported before, but the appearance of a Vepr chambered in the relatively new 6.5 Grendel cartridge was a welcome surprise to many.
Though their introduction was relatively quiet, nearly all of the Grendel Veprs were quickly purchased by AK and exotic rifle aficionados. Many shooters interested in acquiring one of the new guns were unable to snag their own. I spoke with a Wolf representative at SHOT earlier today and there’s good news: more 6.5 Grendel Veprs should be coming in spring, hopefully by March.
Currently plans are to continue offering the rifle in the 16-inch-barreled configuration, though models with different barrel lengths are still a possibility in the future. Prices are still expected to fall around the $800 mark.
Veprs chambered in the impressive intermediate cartridge have already been picked up on by custom gunsmiths like Definitive Arms. Shooters have been able to take them out to 500 yards and land repeatable hits on steel silhouettes.
Note added 1-23: 6.5 Grendel Veprs are currently still available in limited quantities from Legion USA.
