Having eyes bigger than your stomach might apply here.
In this video a goliath heron catches relatively massive catfish and swallows it whole. Due to the size of the fish the goliath heron had a difficult time swallowing the fish and it took several attempts to get it down. You can get a sense of how impressive this is as you watch the heron’s throat expand while the fish is sliding down.
The Goliath Heron (Ardea Goliath) is the world’s largest heron and they can measure up to 6 feet tall and they can weigh up to 12 pounds. The goliath heron feeds mostly on large fish, reptiles, frogs and small mammals.
This was probably the only meal the heron will need for the day.
