Wolf Takes Down Bighorn Sheep—On Camera

The Lone Wolf. That phrase brings to mind a mysterious apparition that stalks the lonely places and attends to business well out of the public eye.
While the grey wolf in this video may have been working alone, it certainly didn’t mind being witnessed. In fact, it pursued a herd of bighorn sheep, singled out a young animal and took it down—in full view of a family driving through Alberta’s Kananaskis park system in the Canadian Rockies.
What the humans considered a once-in-a-lifetime experience, however, may simply have been, to the wolf, an opportunity too good to pass up. On the steep slopes and rugged hillsides, mountain sheep have a considerable advantage and can more easily evade a hungry wolf. But on open, level ground, the predator’s superior speed and stamina wins out.
