A New Ruger Shotgun on the Horizon?

An observant The Truth About Guns reader may have found evidence that Ruger is getting back into the shotgun business. Details are sketchy and wholly conjecture at the moment, but a job posting on the National Shooting Sports Foundation may have prematurely revealed Ruger’s intentions.
According to the posting, Ruger is currently looking to hire a shotgun product manager for their New Hampshire location, which now also handles “service inquires for shotguns” in addition to other firearms.
While this isn’t much information to go on, it could mean that something is in the works for the Ruger Red Label or an entirely new product line.
Sturm, Ruger & Co. opened in 1949 with only a $50,000 investment. It was enough to rent a small machine shop in Connecticut where founders William Ruger and Alexander Sturm worked. The company became well known for its quality rifles and pistols and in 1977, Ruger introduced an American made over/under shotgun: the Red Label. It was followed by the Gold Label, a double-barreled shotgun that was discontinued because of high manufacturing costs.
The Red Label was discontinued in late 2011 and many thought Ruger was out of the shotgun business for good. However, with new positions in the shotgun category opening up, this might not be the case.
Ruger could not be reached for comment.
Now we’ll have to wait and see.
