Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Releases 2014 Results for the Ohio River at Henderson, Kentucky

This past Saturday May 10th, 2014 the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters  of the Ohio River at Henderson, Kentucky. In the event top anglers from 10 different states were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2014 Cabela’s King Kat East and West Championship. This year’s West Championship will be held September 19 & 20, 2014 on the Mississippi and Rock Rivers at Quad Cities, Iowa. The East Championship will be held October 3 & 4, 2014 on Lake Wateree at Camden, South Carolina. Be sure to check out our website at: www.kingkatusa.com. Although it dampened the spirits, terrible weather condition couldn’t stop the Cabela’s King Kat anglers as the endured storms with thunder and lightning midday with high winds and heavy rain.  Afternoon temperatures were in the 80’s with Bad Storms during weigh in.

Results for the Top 5 Teams

Taking first place was Jody Beavin of Owensboro, Kentucky and Ben Goebel of Mt. Vernon, Indiana with a weight of 119.44 pounds and earning $3,000.00. The team also captured big fish of the event with a 42 pounds catfish giving them an extra $565.00. Jody and Ben were fishing the Newburg Dam area, drifting in 24-40 feet of water using Skipjack to catch between 15-20 fish for the day. Each team is allowed to weigh in their top 5 fish of the day at the weigh in.

In second place was the Ohio team of Carl Morris Jr. of Johnstown, Ohio and Jeremy Martin of Centerville, Ohio weighing in 116.32 pounds and earning $1,200.00. Carl and Jeremy were fishing below the JT Meyers Dam, drifting in 25-40 feet of water using large and small size skipjack to catch 12 fish for the day.

Third place went to the Arcanum, Ohio team of Don Hoffman and Chad Langdon with a total weight of 107.22 and earning $500.00. Don and Chad were fishing 12 miles upriver anchored down using skipjack to catch 20 fish for the day.

The Paragould, Arkansas team of Daryl and Jason Masingale took fourth place with a weight of 97.32 pounds and earning $300.00. The Masingale team was fishing the Shawneetown area below the JT Meyer Dam in 235-40 feet of water using skipjack to catch 10 fish for the day.

Fifth place went to the Mt. Vernon, Indiana team of Wayne, Jenifer and Conner King with a weight of 91.78 pounds. The King team was fishing the Mt. Vernon area anchored down in 50 feet of water using skipjack to catch 11 fish for the day.

Cabela’s King Kat Free Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Cabela’s King Kat held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic this fall.

Cabela’s King Kat, Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $322,000.00 to the “Outdoor Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Cabela’s King Kat, “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.

“Special thanks to Kyle and Donna and her staff with Henderson Tourism for hosting the event and the local high school fishing club, fire and rescue, and several other groups who helped make it a great day on the river for all the area youth. We had a great group of kids in the fishing rodeo and all enjoyed the other activities set up for them”, said tournament director Jeremy Coe.
