HAVA’s “Adopt Fritz” Military Program Extended

Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) has announced a unique essay-writing contest for veterans and active duty military. “Adopt Fritz” gives these veterans the opportunity to earn the right to adopt a German Short-haired Pointer that is specially trained by Washington-based Sagebrush Gun Dogs.

The promotion runs from April 15 to June 1, 2014, and includes a three-day training program for the new owner and his new hunting friend.

“‘Adopt Fritz’ is an unusual program for us in that it will allow veterans and active duty military to write an essay that represents their love for the outdoors in a way that embraces bird hunting, but also relates their military experience and/or injuries to their hopes for the future as they re-join civilian life,” said HAVA Chairman Tom Taylor. “HAVA’s mission is to assist the veteran’s recovery by getting them back outdoors and ‘Adopt Fritz’ will encourage a discussion within the veteran community that we hope will get returning military to actively pursue their passions.”

HAVA is communicating “Adopt Fritz” on its website (www.honoredveterans.org) and through the social media pages of HAVA sustaining sponsors. Any other outdoor company that wants to help in this effort can join the project by contacting Jaclyn Stevenson at jaclyn@winstanley.com.
