Jaskiewicz Wins IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Event at Charlston, SC

David Jaskiewicz, of Wando, S.C., measured a combined limit of 47.44 inches to win the first regular-season event for the Atlantic Division of the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour presented by Hobie Fishing at Charleston, S.C., on May 4.
A former winner at Charleston and 2010 Atlantic Divisional Angler of the Year, Jaskiewicz fished the Wando River and Copahee Sound areas.
“The conditions were perfect,” said Jaskiewicz. “A slight breeze in the morning affected the top-water bite, but besides that it was perfect.”
The angler threw top-water baits in the morning, switching to swimbaits and spinner baits later in the day.
“I had a plan and I stuck to it,” said Jaskiewicz. “I was very pleased with my reds but thought my trout could have been better.”
In addition to the $1,500 first-place prize, the angler won the $100 Berkley Gulp! Big Fish award, $450 in Anglers Advantage cash and the $250 Hobie Top Angler award for having the highest placed finish for an angler competing out of a Hobie kayak.
Justin Carter, of Charleston, S.C., measured a 26.75-inch redfish and a 20.50-inch speckled sea trout for a second-place finish. The former 2011 IFA Championship event winner and 2011 IFA Angler of the Year took home a total of $1,270 for his efforts.
Brad Knight, of Belton, S.C., is fishing his first year in the IFA Kayak Tour. Putting in at the Bulls Bay area, Knight fished paddle tails at low tide and targeted trout on grass lines. The angler reported an early bite but slowed later in the day on his way third-place and the $500 prize.
