Pheasants Forever National Board Member Price Passes at 57

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever regretfully announce the passing of Kim Price. A member of the organization’s national board of directors, Kim died January 16 at his home in Alexander City, Alabama, following a short illness. Kim had been a Quail Forever representative on the board since 2007, and through his life’s work, is recognized as a protector of America’s bobwhite quail.

A 1972 graduate of Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, Alabama, Kim graduated from the University of Alabama in 1976. A life-long, accomplished journalist, Kim began his career while still in high school, working for The Alexander City Outlook. Kim worked for the Associated Press from 1978-1990 as a newsman, legislative correspondent and marketing executive in Birmingham, Omaha, Boise and Dallas. Later in life, he was publisher and editor of Covey Rise magazine, which was devoted to quail conservation and hunting.

Vincent, President and CEO of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, “Whether through Covey Rise, our national board of directors, in Washington, D.C., or at his local Quail Forever chapter meetings, Kim’s voice could be heard and recognized as a leader for quail, other wildlife, and outdoor traditions that he treasured.”
During his career, Kim was involved in numerous professional and civic groups. He was past chairman and president of the Alabama Press Association and won numerous press association awards. Kim was also highly active in environmental and wildlife issues, acting as a spokesperson for upland hunting conservation. Several times, Kim traveled to Washington, D.C., to work with legislators and staff on quail and pheasant habitat policies. Through his publication, Covey Rise, Kim was able to draw much needed attention to bobwhite quail and help reestablish their prominence in the American countryside. In 2010, Kim was named one of the 25 Most Influential People in Hunting and Fishing by Outdoor Life.
All who knew Kim will remember him for his dedication, his sense of humor and his loyalty to Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever. Kim is survived by his wife Janet Valentine Price and his children Matthew Price, Griffin Price, Whitney Clanton and Chase Clanton.
