This Week on MeatEater: Steven Rinella Travels to Old Mexico for Coues Deer

This week on MeatEater, Steven Rinella crosses the border to Sonora, Mexico to hunt Coues deer with friend and fellow hunter, Remi Warren. It’s peak season for ‘the rut’ and the deer are on the move, but this does not ensure success on their journey. The deer are skittish and very attuned to movement in their surroundings – which can make for long days. Tune in to MeatEater, exclusively on Sportsman Channel, Sunday, November 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The vast landscape in Sonora is not for the faint of heart. The ground is covered in lava rocks and the slopes are ever present. The hunt is extremely difficult for both men, but perhaps more so for Remi Warren who is stalking with a bow in hand. “This is a tricky hunt, but I’m very proud of the way we handle the environment and the challenges,” said Rinella, host of MeatEater. “Persistence is the key ingredient with any hunt, but especially when traveling into uncommon territory. This particular hunt was during the rut, which makes the deer easier to find, but also, easier to lose.”

Viewers will have to tune in to see if Rinella and Warren get an opportunity to cap off a hunt with a batch of venison ribs braised in a Dutch oven buried beneath the coals.
