Walmart Bass Fishing League Bulldog Division to Host Event on West Point Lake, Alabama
OutdoorHub 09.08.11
Lanett, Ala. Sept. 8, 2011 – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to West Point Lake Sept. 17-18 for its fifth and final stop in the Bulldog Division. This will be a two-day super tournament where as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
“The fishing is really good as you move back in the creeks,” said Straight Talk pro Scott Canterbury of Springville, Ala. “They offer a lot of wooded areas, and that’s all I would fish.
“Along with moving back into the creeks, the wildcard will be getting into pockets up in the river” Canterbury added. “You can catch a big bite up there; it’s just a little bit of a gamble. I expect the weights to be pretty good. There should be a lot of people catching 12 to 13 pounds per day, and I would say 30 pounds will win.”
Takeoffs will be at Southern Harbor Marina and Resort located at 1133 County Road 294. in Lanett at 7 a.m. each morning. Saturday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 3 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh-in is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Walmart located at 3501 20th Ave. in Valley, Ala. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The West Point Lake BFL tournament is being hosted by the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
