Max Michel Wins USPSA National Championships in Memorable Fashion

Exeter, N.H. September 21, 2011 — Max Michel, Jr., brought home the  2012 United States Practical Shooting Association national Championship Tuesday in a way he’s sure to remember. After three days of competition, Michel was sitting atop the Open Division bracket, when he got the call that his wife, Jennifer, had gone into labor.

Thanks to the effort of the USPSA range staff, Max was able to finish up his match first thing in the morning and hop the first flight home to meet his new daughter, Makenzie.

“My wife and family have been so supportive of my shooting career,” Michel said. “Without their love and sacrifice, none of my success would’ve been possible.”

Makenzie Michel was born at 4:09 central time on Tuesday. She weighed 7.7lbs and was 19.5” long. Both mother and daughter are doing great.

“All of us here at SIG SAUER want to congratulate Max and his family on their new addition,” said Ron Cohen, SIG SAUER chief executive officer. “This championship is a big win, but nothing trumps family.”

Michel won 9 of the 20 stages en route to his sixth USPSA national championship. His score of 1743.6246 was more than 3 percentage points ahead of the runner up. The match was held at the Dessert Sportsman Club in Las Vegas.

Next up on Max Michel’s shooting schedule is the International Practical Shooting Confederation’s World Shoot XVI. As part of the United States’ Open Division squad, Michel will compete as a teammate to some of the same shooters he battled in Las Vegas. The match, held in Rhodes, Greece, takes place September 28-October 9.
