Governor to Cut Ribbon at South Dakota GFP’s Rapid City Outdoor Campus

Rapid City, S.D. – After years of planning and a year of construction, the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Department’s Rapid City Outdoor Campus will be officially opened to the public on Thursday, Sept. 29, with a 3 p.m. MDT ribbon-cutting by Gov. Dennis Daugaard.
The Governor, GFP commissioners, department officials and many volunteers and donors will attend.
“It has been a long road for a great project, and we are excited to have the Governor officially open the doors,” said GFP Secretary Jeff Vonk. “The Outdoor Campus will provide classes and training for a variety of activities, including outdoor cooking, hunting, fishing, camping and many others.”
“We have already had more than 500 Black Hills residents participate in classes we’ve offered, and we really haven’t even opened the doors,” added Outdoor Campus Visitor Services Coordinator Chad Tussing. “The people of the Black Hills are very excited about our programming.”
The Outdoor Campus has interactive exhibits, a 4,600-gallon aquarium, and accessible walking trails.
“A visit to the Outdoor Campus will be like no other,” said Tussing. “We want people to come and experience everything we have to offer and get information on all the classes and learning opportunities we’ll be providing.”
The Outdoor Campus also will have an Open House on Thursday, Oct. 6, from 4-7 p.m. Open House activities include kids fishing, furs, Laser Shot, live birds of prey, and appearances by Rapid City Rush players.
