OutdoorHub 10.27.11
Oct. 27, 2011– The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), in conjunction with Cabela’s, held a second Women’s Weekend Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Waddill Outdoor Education Center in Baton Rouge.
Twenty four participants spent a full day learning “Hunting Basics” from LDWF Education Section staff members and Hunter Education volunteer instructors.
The eight-hour workshop focused on safe hunting and firearm skills, game basics, scouting/blood trailing, rifle and shotgun shooting techniques, archery and tree stand safety demonstrations. Each activity offered hands-on practice time for every participant. At the conclusion of the workshop, each participant received complimentary outdoor items from Cabela’s and the opportunity to taste different wild game dishes.
Through private partnerships, LDWF has arranged hunts later in the 2011-12 hunting season for each participant to hunt and test their skills. The program goals include developing outdoors skills and attracting and retaining new hunters.
