Ruger Collectibles on Auction for USA Shooting Team

Colorado Springs, Colo.–An online auction of collectible Ruger firearms is benefiting the USA Shooting Team as it trains for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The auction is being hosted at www.gunbroker.com.
Different firearms from rare and historic Ruger lines are being auctioned from now (bidding on the first item closes Nov. 9, 2011) until the 2012 NRA Annual Meeting, April 13-15, in St. Louis. At that time, Ruger will collect all accumulated proceeds and present them to the USA Shooting Team.
Funds will help prepare American athletes for international competitions including the Olympics.
“Ruger is a longtime and generous supporter of the USA Shooting Team,” said Buddy DuVall, executive director of the USA Shooting Team Foundation. “The company stepped forward last year with this auction idea which netted more than $18,000. It was a huge help to our team. We’re very grateful to Ruger for doing it again this year, especially with the Olympics coming up next year, and with our training regimens now moving into high gear,”
The first firearms to be auctioned at GunBroker.com include:
- Auction item No. 1: A stainless Speed-Six manufactured in 1974. This revolver is a “pre-warning” gun which means it does not have the stamping “BEFORE USING GUN – READ INSTRUCTION MANUAL AVAILABLE FROM STURM, RUGER & CO., INC., Southport, Conn. U.S.A.” Pre-warning guns are popular with collectors. Bidding on this item closes Nov. 9, 2011.
- The sixth and final set of consecutively serial numbered Service-Six® Military Model double-action revolvers. Ruger produced these .38 Special revolvers for the U.S. Army Armament Material Development and Readiness Command, and are marked “U.S.” at the right front of the frame.
- Consecutively serial numbered pair of “U.S.” marked Mark II pistols. In 1983, Ruger was awarded a contract from the U.S. Army for .22 caliber target and training pistols. A new model was developed to meet the Army’s requirements, and these were the first Ruger Mark II pistols made with 6 7/8-inch bull barrels. The guns also featured a laser sighting system, which was later granted a U.S. patent.
