Colorado Parks and Wildlife Unveils New Logo

Denver, Colo. – Colorado Parks and Wildlife has unveiled a new agency logo. Celebrating Colorado’s rich history of conservation and recreation, the new logo features a bighorn sheep perched over a rock-rimmed river below a classic Colorado skyline of snowcapped peaks.

The logo design was finalized by Director Rick Cables and unveiled for the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission recently. The new logo can be viewed at http://dnr.state.co.us/ImageDBImages/26447.jpg

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife logo retains the strong brand equity of both the ram and circular motif that has represented the Colorado Division of Wildlife and before that, Colorado Game, Fish and Parks. The backdrop reflects the enhanced natural resource management the merger represents. Both the depiction of canyon country and water features are a salute to the diversity of resources brought by Colorado State Parks and speaks to the new agency’s expanded conservation and outdoor recreation mission. Snowcapped mountains echo Colorado’s famous license plate design. Encircling the image are the three words: “Colorado – Parks – Wildlife.”

“This new logo really speaks to our great, complimentary traditions of conservation and outdoor recreation,” said Colorado Parks and Wildlife Director Rick Cables. “It says these two remarkable agencies are now one and that we are moving forward.”

Colorado Parks and Wildlife was formed July 1 from the merger of Colorado State Parks and the Colorado Division of Wildlife as a result of bipartisan legislation passed during the 2011 legislative session and signed into law by Gov. John Hickenlooper. The legislation also merged the Colorado Parks Board with the Colorado Wildlife Commission to form the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission.

During the next several months, the public will begin to see the new Colorado Parks and Wildlife logo on employee uniforms, business cards and on a new Internet “splash page” that will have links to information and resources on both the parks and wildlife web sites. Full integration of the two web sites will occur over time as part of the merger process.

Starting next spring, the new logo for Colorado Parks and Wildlife will be increasingly visible on major agency offices, publications, vehicles and signs.
