OutdoorHub 07.18.12
The Garmin fenix is a new GPS watch that offers complete navigation and mapping capabilities similar to those of a hand held GPS except it is on the wrist leaving the hands hands-free according to the Heart Rate Watch Company.
“The Garmin fenix is ideal for marking important points you want to remember, like certain fishing holes or specific points where big game have been scouted”, says Rusty Squire, President of the Heart Rate Watch Company. He adds, “It truly is the ideal tool for the serious hunting and fishing enthusiast”.
Knowing important map points for favorite fishing locations or locations for big game can be invaluable and save users a lot of time in navigating to their favorite spots. “If you get lost in the woods or the mountains then the Garmin fenix can navigate you right back to the car with ease”, says Squire. He adds, “With 1,000 way points and 10,000 track points it is easy to set a bread crumb trail to navigate yourself back to any location.
The applications of the Garmin fenix are virtually limitless for outdoor enthusiasts and it provides post-adventure maps of everywhere you went with elevations. It’s only competition is the Suunto Ambit and that watch does not do onscreen maps.

ABC Watch – Altimeter, Barometer And Compass
The fenix includes an altimeter, barometer and compass, so you’ll always know your elevations, the weather and which direction to head in. Program in USGS coordinates and the Garmin fenix can take you exactly where you want to go with pinpoint accuracy, even without a trail.
Doubles as a Fitness Watch
The Garmin fenix also works with Garmin heart rate monitor straps to gather heart rate data and other accessories making it a fairly complete bike computer or runners watch if desired.
Plenty of Power
The Garmin fenix uses a lithium-ion rechargeable battery that can last up to 50 hours at 1 minute recording intervals or about 18 hours at one second recording intervals. Recharge the watch with an included power cable and download all mapping, temperature, distance and other data directly into Garmin Connect. Share your maps with friends, but be careful of showing too many people those favorite spots.
“The Garmin fenix is due out in late August and is already enormously popular so the best thing for consumers to do is get in advanced orders as quickly as possible on this GPS watch“, says Squire.
