Noveske Shooting Team members Rob Romero and Jansen Jones, sponsored by Brownells, along with Colt Manufacturing’s professional shooter, Clint Upchurch, have clinched the coveted “Nation’s Best 3-Gun Team” title after their recent triumph at the Colt 3-Man 3-Gun Championship, held July 14-15, 2012, at the Peacemaker National Training Center in Glengary, WV.
After taking a commanding lead in the competition following round one of the two-round shootout in May, the threesome, unofficially nicknamed “Team NovesColt” was pitted against other world-class trios in the final round. Teams representing FNH USA, Smith & Wesson, Blackhawk, and Spikes Tactical proved difficult to overcome.
“There was a ton of excellent competition here,” said Jones. “It was an honor to go head-to-head with some of the biggest names in the sport.”
Facing seven challenging courses of fire, it took more than precision shooting skills to pave the way to victory.
“You can’t just go into a match like this and make quick decisions about who shoots what gun,” said Romero. “It takes some planning. You have to decide which order you want to shoot what gun. It’s all about saving time on the clock.”
When the last shots were fired and the scores tallied, Team NovesColt emerged victorious scoring 1,204 points – the only team to break into the 1,200 bracket.
“I knew Rob and Jansen had competed in this championship and came up just short of winning the match two years in a row,” said Upchurch, who filled in for Team Noveske Shooter, Katie Harris, who was unable to attend. “I’m honored they asked me to be a part of their team. We all worked really hard and it paid off. I’m looking forward to defending the title next year.”
For their efforts, Team NovesColt claimed the $6,000 cash prize from Colt Manufacturing.
