The MidwayUSA Foundation, Inc. and Scholastic Shooting Trust, a public charity established by MidwayUSA founders Larry and Brenda Potterfield, has given $120,067 in grants during their July 2012 grant cycle.
“This is the Foundation’s second grant this year since we offer school shooting teams their choice of receiving a grant in either January or July depending on their specific needs. This grant cycle we were able to provide grants to 52 different high school or college teams.” says Dick Leeper, Executive Director of The MidwayUSA Foundation, Inc. “The Foundation is growing rapidly as shown by the award of $53,000 in grants in January and this time we awarded over $120,000.” He continues, “Through the permanent endowments, these high school and college shooting teams are able to fund their shooting programs every year for as long as the team exists. It’s a positive way to build for their financial future.”
The MidwayUSA Foundation, Inc. was established to provide five percent of a team’s fund balance for the purpose of buying ammunition, paying range or competition fees, arranging for competition travel and other operating costs. Teams may apply for a grant once per year, either in January or June.
“Competitive shooting teams provide wonderful opportunities for students to make friends, to develop confidence, and learn discipline and leadership skills. However, most schools provide little or no funding for shooting teams, so it’s up to us to help,” says Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO, MidwayUSA. “Brenda and I are elated to see the tremendous growth of the MidwayUSA Foundation, Inc. and we are excited see these teams build their accounts.”
