Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results for the Ohio River at Metropolis, Illinois

This past Saturday July 28th, the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Ohio River at Metropolis, Illinois. In the event over 80 top anglers from 13 different states were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2012 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. This year’s Cabela’s King Kat Classic will be held on the Alabama River at Selma, Alabama  September 27/28/29, 2012. Over 300 spectators were on hand to watch an exciting weigh-in with several big fish weighed in. With the hot weather being experienced in the area the Ohio River was low and water temperature running in the mid to upper eighties.

Results for the Top 5 Teams

Taking first place was the Norris, Illinois team of Dale and Matt Kerns with an overwhelming weight of 174.7 pounds and earning $3,000.00. Dale and Matt were fishing down river nearly 20 miles and targeting 30-45 feet water using small herring to catch 15 fish for the day. Teams are allowed to weigh in their top 5 fish for the day.

In second place was Joe Ben Hogancamp of Bardwell, Kentucky and Clay Cannon of West Paducah, Kentucky weighing in 125.9 pounds to earn $1,500.00.  Joe Ben and Clay traveled up river some 20 miles to fish an area in 40-50 feet deep using skipjack to catch 12 fish for the day.

Third place went to the Grand Rivers, Kentucky team of Donald Kinder and Tim Doom with a weight of 124.8 pounds and earning $800.00. Donald and Tim brought in a kicker fish weighing 57.25 pounds which was big fish of the event earning them an additional $740.00. Donald and Tim were fishing near the Smithland Dam in depths from 10-70 feet deep using skipjack to land 10 fish for the day.

Daryl and Jason Masingale of Paragould, Arkansas  took fourth place with a weight of 103.85 pounds and earning $600.00. Daryl and Jason,  the winners of the 2011 Rippin Lips “Angler of the Year” Points Race, were fishing near Ft. Massac State Park boat ramp locating fish in 30-40 feet of water. The team was using skipjack to catch 12 fish for the day.

Fifth place went to the Bardstown, Kentucky team of Steve and Lisa Douglas weighing in 95.55 pounds and earning $500.00.
