Missouri State Parks Hosts Falconry Program August 18 at Thousand Hills State Park

Falconry, the hunting of wild game with birds of prey, will be the focus of a program Aug. 18 at Thousand Hills State Park near Kirksville. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the free program will be held at 7 p.m. in the Point Shelter and the public is invited to attend. Guest speaker and falconer Meagan Duffee will present the program.
From the ancient Egyptians to the nomadic Mongolians, falconry was considered to be the sport of kings. Although it dates back thousands of years, it is still alive and well today and considered by many to be not just a sport, but an art form. Join us to learn what it is that falconers do and what it takes to become a falconer, plus get an up close look at some live raptors.
Please bring a lawn chair or a towel to sit on in the grass in case the benches fill up at the shelter. The program will last approximately one hour. If you have any questions, call Emily Burke at Thousand Hills State Park at 660-665-6995.
