Test Results do not Reveal Exact Cause of Carp Die-Offs in Nebraska

Tests results of common carp samples do not reveal the exact culprit in die-offs at Sutherland Reservoir and Lake Maloney. In testing completed at Washington State University, results revealed no explanation why mortality was seen only in common carp.
As many as seven diseases contributed to the death of some of the common carp sampled. The koi herpes virus was not found in the samples. Further testing may be required to understand these common carp die-offs.
Approximately 8,500 common carp washed up on Sutherland’s shorelines in June, while less than 1,000 were observed at Lake Maloney.
