Things are Going to Heat Up This April at the 4th Annual Women in the Wild Event

   02.03.12

Texas Outdoors Woman Network (TOWN)-Rockport Chapter is proud to announce its 4th Annual Women in the Wild event to be held the weekend of April 14th and 15th at the Port Bay Hunting and Fishing Club in Rockport, TX. TOWN Rockport is a non-profit organization that strives to provide all women the opportunity to experience outdoor activities in a safe, non threatening and supportive environment and the annual Women in the Wild event does just that. Ladies come from across the state to attend the all women weekend workshop to learn and improve their outdoor skills.

In its fourth year, Women in the Wild, is an annual outdoor oriented workshop that educates women and builds new skills encouraging future participation in outdoor recreation. This Texas Game Warden Outreach event was founded by Brandi Reeder, a Texas Game Warden who currently coordinates the event and serves as a TOWN Rockport board member. Reeder had been approached by many women in the Coastal Bend area who wanted to learn about different avenues of outdoor recreation. Through the help of her fellow game wardens and TOWN Rockport Women in the Wild was born. The $125 registration fee covers the cost of food during the two day event, dinner at the mixer, t-shirts, gift bags, and participation in four hands on classes. Over the years classes offered have included shotguns, kayaking, dutch oven cooking, fishing, game processing, self defense, first aid, archery, boat operations, photography and more. This event is a non-profit event with any funding overage rolling forward into the next year’s event. Starting this year, $500 in scholarships will be awarded, from Women in the Wild funds collected from previous year’s events; to a young woman graduating from high school that has shown participating in the outdoors has impacted their life. The scholarship, currently offered to Rockport High School, is a way to give back to the community while encouraging young women to explore outdoor careers.

Women in the Wild is excited to be back and knows that this year will be bigger than the past. Registration information is now available and can be found at www.townrockport.org on the Women in the Wild tab. Space is limited and fills up quickly. Sponsors and donations are always accepted.
