For the second year in a row a partnership with Midway USA Foundation and the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) has worked through local MDF Chapters to raise $157,250 for youth shooting programs. The donation has been made to the Scholastic Shooting Trust (SST) and divided among 55 high schools, universities and colleges in 16 MDF active states.
MDF’s M.U.L.E.Y. (Mindful, Understanding, Legal & Ethical Youth) Program continues to get youth involved in shooting sports and wildlife conservation reaching over 10,000 youth each year. “The 2012 Mule Deer Foundation’s fundraising effort for the Scholastic Shooting Trust will help to enhance current programs and jump start new ones,” said Miles Moretti, President and CEO of the Mule Deer Foundation. “We believe that having our local MDF Chapters take part in enhancing local shooting programs directly impacts the introduction of the next generation of sportsmen and women.”
MDF is one of the key conservation groups in North America working to restore, improve and protect mule deer, black-tailed deer and their habitat. MDF acknowledges regulated hunting as a viable management component and is committed to recruitment and retention of youth into the shooting sports and conservation. Most recently, the Mule Deer Foundation has developed a youth shooting program – M.U.L.E.Y. to introduce more youth into the shooting sports and wildlife conservation.
SST was formed to provide funding for shooting sports education in public and private high schools, colleges and universities. The trust is a mission of MidwayUSA Foundation, Inc and started by Larry and Brenda Potterfield in 2007 to support education in shooting sports, hunting, firearms safety and outdoor skills.
