Glouse Wins Walmart Bass Fishing League Savannah River Division on Lake Keowee

Greg Glouse of Liberty, S.C., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 16 pounds even Saturday to win the Walmart Bass Fishing League Savannah River Division event on Lake Keowee. For his victory, Glouse earned $5,133.

“I got a really good start early,” said Glouse. “I caught a 5 pounder early that morning, and right there I knew it was going to be a very good day. The weather was cold and windy, and it made for some tough fishing. The winds were gusting up to 35 to 40 miles per hour. You really had to try to get out of the wind, or stay on top of the trolling motor to fish. ”

“I started out fishing shallow in the morning, and as the sun got higher I moved out and fished deep for the rest of the day,” Glouse continued. “We were fishing deep, from 40 to 60 feet. I was using a drop-shot rig and a Zoom Finesse Worm. I also caught a few fish with a Saluda River Custom Tackle Shaky Head. Between my co-angler and I, we put 15 fish in the boat.

“That’s about an average catch for Guntersville in February,” Glouse went on to say. “I had predicted to some friends before the tournament that it was going

to take around 14 pounds to win this tournament, so the bags were a little better than I had expected.”

The next BFL Savannah River Division tournament is scheduled for March 3 at Clarks Hill Lake in Appling, Ga. After the fifth Savannah River Division tournament is complete, the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 4 – 6 Regional Championship on Lake Seminole in Bainbridge, Ga. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger Z518 with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy Silverado, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger Z518 with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. The 2012 BFL All-American is being held May 17 – 19 on the Potomac River in National Harbor, Md. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
