Two Utah Bull Elk Shot and Left to Rot

Two big bull elk were found rotting in northeastern Utah in early October.
Someone shot this bull elk and then left it to rot in northeastern Utah. Wildlife officers need your help to solve the case.

Bryan Clyde, a conservation officer with the Division of Wildlife Resources, says the first bull elk was shot on or before Oct. 4. After killing the animal, the person who shot the 6 x 6 bull left the entire carcass to waste on Dyer Mountain.
“The bull elk hunts weren’t even open yet,” Clyde says. “The only hunts in the area were the muzzleloader deer and an antlerless (cow) elk hunt.”
The second elk, another 6 x 6 bull, was shot on or before Oct. 10 on the same any-bull hunting unit.
The bull was shot after the general bull elk hunt started on Oct. 6. It was found south of the Iron Springs campground.
Both areas are about 20 miles north of Vernal.
“It’s very unfortunate to find bulls this large left to waste,” Clyde says. “Many hunters look forward to getting a chance at bulls like these. It’s disheartening to see two big bulls shot and left to rot.”
