Wildlife Presentations Offered Over the Next Several Days in Arizona

Arizona Game and Fish Department biologist Scott Sprague will present several wildlife talks on the topic of maintaining wildlife connectivity across highways, and how cooperative partnerships between different agencies and organizations are finding innovative solutions to the challenges that transportation infrastructure can pose for wildlife. There will also be a Wildlife Telemetry Workshop at Catalina State Park this Sunday, Nov. 11.

Thursday, Nov. 8, 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Bridging the Gap: Partnerships to Restore Wildlife Connectivity across Arizona’s Highways. Lunchtime Science Series at the Carnegie Center, 1101 W. Washington St., Phoenix. Presented in cooperation with Arizona State Parks, Arizona Science Center and Carnegie Center. This talk will discuss how events or circumstances such as road upgrades can present opportunities for research and implementation of wildlife connectivity measures such as underpasses and overpasses to help conserve and restore healthy ecosystems. Thursday, Nov. 8, 3:15-3:35 p.m. – Afternoon Kids Talk on “Wildlife and Roads.” Arizona Science Center, 600 E. Washington St., Phoenix. Presented in cooperation with Arizona State Parks, Arizona Science Center and Carnegie Center. This kid-friendly discussion will feature some introductory information and time for Q&A from the audience. Regular Science Center admission fee is required. View the event flyer.

Sunday, Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Wildlife Telemetry Workshop (RSVP required – see below). Catalina State Park, Tucson. Arizona Game and Fish Department staff and Arizona Wildlife Society members will briefly discuss how and why wildlife biologists use radio and GPS transmitters to track various species of wildlife. Various transmitters and equipment will be on hand so that participants can see the tools of the trade. Following the discussion of radio telemetry basics, there will be a short field exercise where participants will use telemetry equipment to track down and locate wildlife transmitters. More details for the workshop will be e-mailed to you before the event after you have RSVP’d.
