The January/February issue of American Handgunner launches the New Year in style, beginning with coverage of the full-size Lightweight Government from Colt.
Weighing-in at only 33 ounces fully-loaded, Colt’s .45 ACP Lightweight Government Model 1911 changes the landscape of full-size concealment options. Contributing editor John Taffin could not have been more pleased with the fusion of comfort and dependability that make this Lightweight .45 suitable for daily carry and self-defense.
“No matter what the bullet weight or shape, this Lightweight .45 functioned flawlessly and shot very well, with most loads being 2” or less for five shots at 20 yards,” observes an impressed Taffin. “With the arrival of this Lightweight Government Model, my list of choices of a carry gun has been whittled way down.”
Looking to convert a lowly semi-auto into a compact pistol-caliber carbine? Mech-Tech’s Carbine Conversion Unit (CCU) feasibly turns Glocks and 1911s into pistol carbines, and has caught the attention of American Handgunner Publisher Roy Huntington, who gave this novel system his stamp of approval.
“If you’re someplace where it’s a pain to buy guns, the CCU isn’t considered a firearm, so you could, indeed, ‘add’ a carbine to your inventory without doing any FFL paperwork,” expressed Huntington. “The CCU suddenly gives you an extremely accurate 100-yard 1911 or Glock, it is overbuilt and simply engineered.”
Other features in the January/February 2013 issue include a detailed Christmas Gift Guide for last-minute shoppers, the new trio of Super Carry HD 1911s from Kimber, a custom Night Guard by Mag-Na-Port, the broad appeal of Hallmark Cutlery’s new Bad Blood line and a fun-filled review of high-class “gun-buckets,” or holsters, by John Connor.
