Series tracking the construction of a remote hunting and fishing lodge tops Scripps’ DIY Network ratings
Officials from Orion Entertainment, the world’s largest producer of outdoor lifestyle television, announced that Building Alaska now ranks as the #1 original series on the DIY network among total viewers in 2012 out of 34 total programs. Ratings for Building Alaska are up from +32% to +127% compared to DIY programming previously airing in its time period, and up +22% to +186% compared to the prior year.
The 6-episode series follows hunting and fishing guide Bob May as he and his small team build a cabin on remote Afognak Island in the Kodiak Archipelago of southern Alaska. The ambitious build forces Bob and his crew to work 16-hour days as they race to finish the cabin in time for the arrival of his paying clients. The construction site is unlike anything found in the lower 48, as the team faces the challenges of total isolation, harsh weather, and an occasional Kodiak brown bear stopping by. Building Alaska shows the physical and emotional challenges that Bob and his family endure as they strive to make his dream a reality under unforgiving conditions.
