Vermont’s Winooski River Fishing Access Repairs Completed

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department announced that repairs to its fishing access area off Windemere Way in Colchester near the mouth of the Winooski River are completed and the access is open for use.

The department completed the dredging of the access area, removing nearly 800 cubic yards of silt that accumulated over the past decade, including siltation from the flooding events of 2011.

“The ramp is in great shape for year round use, regardless of the water levels,” said Michael Wichrowski, Fish & Wildlife’s lands and facilities coordinator. “Anyone wishing to brave the cold weather for some late season salmon fishing should have no problem launching their boats.”

“This is one of our busiest fishing access areas, and we wanted to make sure the boat ramp will be easy to use before Winooski River walleye fishing gets hot next spring.”

Normal siltation, plus deposits left last year by Irene, made it difficult to launch boats during the low water in recent months.
