Bring your family and friends to enjoy Barr Lake State Park’s January festivities. It’s a fun filled month of nature activities!
Friday Night Campfire Tales
Jan. 25 and Feb. 22 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Enjoy a good story and roast marshmallows around the campfire with Ranger Michelle, followed by kids crafts in the Nature Center.
Bald Eagle Hike
Saturday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m.
Make a date to come to Barr Lake in January and February as they are excellent months for bald eagle viewing. In January, eagles begin courtship behavior including tumbling in mid-air, nest building, and staying close together. In mid-February, and often coinciding with Valentine’s Day, bald eagles lay one to three eggs. The parents take turns incubating the eggs, so you are practically guaranteed to see an eagle on the nest. If all goes well, eaglets hatch in late March.
Families Invited to Christmas Bird Count for Kids
Saturday, Jan. 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Christmas Bird Count for Kids will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 26 at RMBO’s Environmental Learning Center, located at Barr Lake near Brighton. The count is designed to get young birders involved in the tradition of annual bird counts, foster a conservation ethic in the next generation of stewards and give families an opportunity to get outside and participate in a fun, educational event. Families should register in advance with Community Education Coordinator Tyler Edmondson at 303-659-4348 ext. 15 or tyler.edmondson@rmbo.org. Cost is $5 per family plus $7 per vehicle entrance fee to Barr Lake State Park. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
