KEEN Illuminates Salt Lake City, Utah with the Northern Lights

Awe-inspiring light and sound installation invites city-goers and/or attendees to celebrate the outdoors and support the Conservation Alliance .

WHAT

Tonight, as the sun sets and Salt Lake City is cloaked in darkness, the downtown building, across from the Salt Palace, at 115 S. West Temple St. will transform into a 60-by-100-foot canvas and illuminate with digital images of the mysterious and magical colors of the Northern Lights sky. The breathtaking light display will be accented by a musical soundtrack curated by sound designer and musician Matthew Patterson Curry.

KEEN, an outdoor company known for doing things differently, created the inspiring installation to increase awareness for its long-time Hybrid.Care partner, the Conservation Alliance. The Portland-based company sought to find a thought-provoking and creative way to inspire others get outdoors and care for the planet – even on dark, cold winter nights in the middle of the city.

“Through this amazing light and sound show, we wanted to illuminate the night sky with the beauty of the Northern Lights, while enlightening others about the great work of the Conservation Alliance,” said Linda Balfour, director of marketing at KEEN and a board member of the Conservation Alliance. “KEEN’s Northern Lights display captures the awe of the outdoors as a way of celebrating the wild places the Conservation Alliance has protected or is currently working to protect.”

Areas of Utah have benefited from the work of the Conservation Alliance. For example, in 2012, the Conservation Alliance worked tirelessly to protect three million acres of wilderness-quality public lands in the Red Rock Country from the imminent threat of oil and gas drilling and off-road vehicle use. KEEN has donated more than $1 million to the Conservation Alliance since 2007.
