   01.30.13

The Marine Trades Association of New Jersey (MTA/NJ) is pleased to announce the availability of two Education Scholarships for the 2013-2014 school year open to students interested in pursuing a career in the recreational marine industry. The first scholarship is a $1,500 MTA/NJ Education Scholarship that can be applied towards any recreational boating and/or marine trades program or marine technical program at any school. The MTA/NJ Foundation was established to help promote boating safety and education and to help fund a new scholarship to encourage education in the marine trades field. The MTA/NJ Foundation has been successful in raising funds and has awarded over $18,000 in scholarships and awards over the last six years.

In addition to the MTA/NJ Education Scholarship, the Automotive Training Center in Pennsylvania is sponsoring a half scholarship, valued at $9,562.50, to students interested in their Marine Technician Program and/or Marine Service Technology Program. The Automotive Training Center offers hands-on training and experience while performing maintenance and repair on inboard and outboard engines manufactured by Honda and Mercury Marine as well as other major manufacturers.

Both scholarships are open to any New Jersey resident who has or will have recently graduated high school and has a strong desire to succeed in a marine industry vocational/technical program to further their education in the marine industry. The applicant must show ambition and intend to pursue a career in the recreational marine industry in New Jersey. Information about the scholarships including an overview of the application process, applications, and a downloadable brochure highlighting the many career opportunities in the marine industry are available online at mtanj.org/scholarships. All students are encouraged to speak to their guidance counselor if they are interested in applying for either of these education scholarships. Applications are due April 2, 2013.

“There has never been a more important time to raise awareness of all that the boating industry has to offer,” stated MTA/NJ Executive Director, Melissa Danko. “There are many rewarding and exciting careers available in the marine trades industry and it is our goal to help any individual who is serious about pursuing a career in the boating industry.” For more information about the MTA/NJ Foundation or to make a donation, please contact the MTA/NJ office at 732-292-1051; email: info@mtanj.org.
