Preliminary Reports Show Strong Wisconsin 2012 Deer Seasons
OutdoorHub 01.31.13
Early reports based upon harvest numbers provided to the Department of Natural Resources from hunters show the state set an all-time record for bucks taken during the archery season — and held its own for total harvest with other top states.
The totals reported by hunters – which still must be reviewed by DNR wildlife experts — show:
- A 5 percent increase in total deer harvest in 2012 from 2011.
- This total returns Wisconsin as one of the nation’s top five deer hunting states for total harvests.
- Of the grand preliminary total, more than 93,000 were taken during the archery season — and 45,775 of that were bucks for an all-time buck archery harvest in the state.
