Apply now for Willamette Wildlife Mitigation Project Funding in Oregon

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has opened a solicitation process to identify conservation projects to be recommended to the Bonneville Power Administration for funding under terms of the Willamette River Basin Memorandum of Agreement regarding wildlife habitat protection and enhancement. Project proposals will be accepted until 5 p.m. March 4, 2013.

Projects must be located in the Willamette River Basin and must preserve, protect and restore wildlife and wildlife habitat for the citizens of Oregon.

In 2010, the Bonneville Power Administration and the State of Oregon signed an agreement to settle BPA wildlife habitat mitigation obligations in the Willamette Valley. The agreement dedicates $117 million of stable funding from electric ratepayers for 15 years to safeguard Willamette habitat for native species, supporting state efforts to protect the Willamette Basin and fulfilling BPA’s responsibility under the Northwest Power Act to offset the impacts of federal flood control and hydropower dams.
