Major Sanborn of the Main Warden Service Passes
The Maine Warden Service and the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is saddened by the passing of Maj. Gregory Sanborn, the Second in Command of the Maine Warden Service.
Gregory fought an extremely valiant battle against a rare form of cancer, battling for more than a year before losing his fight on Tuesday afternoon. He was 47 years old and a native of Fryeburg.
Gregory battled a form of cancer called Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. A stem-cell transplant was required, and more than a thousand people were added to donor roles as a result.
He was a 23-year veteran of the Maine Warden Service. Colonel Joel Wilkinson said of him, “I have had the privilege of spending nearly every day of my last six years working for him and beside him out of the Augusta office. He was a dedicated and loyal employee and friend and gave 100% to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and believed in its mission to his core. He was one of the most unselfish individuals I have ever met in my life and he was genuine man who believed in traditional values and lived them every day of his life. “
Commissioner Chandler Woodcock said “We are all greatly saddened by Gregg’s passing. He was a dedicated and loyal member of the Warden Service and one of the most courageous people I have ever met. We will miss him. He left a lasting legacy, by example.”

Services for Major Sanborn will be at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy on Saturday.
