Montana FWP Seeks Public Comment on Renewal of Habitat Project at Spotted Eagle Reservoir

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking public comment on the renewal of an environmental assessment (EA) for sinking Christmas trees to improve sport fish populations and angling opportunity at Spotted Eagle Reservoir. Christmas trees were placed in Spotted Eagle from 2005 to 2010 to provide hiding cover and spawning substrate for sport fish.Annual surveys have demonstrated a response from fish species including yellow perch, black crappie, and bluegill. The trees do break down and their benefit declines as they deteriorate. Fish, Wildlife & Parks in collaboration with the Miles City chapter of Walleyes Unlimited would like to continue the Christmas tree habitat project in the future. The new EA proposes continuation of the habitat project through the next 10 years.
