Four Public Forums Remain for Fall Hunt Recommendations in Arizona

The Arizona Game and Fish Department will continue hosting its series of public forums to meet with constituents about developing the 2013 fall hunt recommendations for deer, bighorn sheep, turkey, javelina, buffalo, bear, mountain lion, and small game animals. The remaining meetings are scheduled for:
- Thurs., Feb. 28, from 6-8 p.m. in Yuma at the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge office, 9300 E. 28th St.
- Thurs., Feb. 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the Arizona Game and Fish Mesa regional office, 7200 E. University Drive.
- Wed., March 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the Arizona Game and Fish Pinetop regional office, 2878 E. White Mountain Blvd.
- Mon., March 11, from 6-8 p.m. at the Arizona Game and Fish Flagstaff regional office, 3500 S. Lake Mary Road.
Constituents interested in particular game management units within those regions will have the opportunity to discuss management direction. The meetings allow the department to get together with sportsmen to discuss recommendations being considered, based on survey data, harvest rates, and hunt guidelines. Permit numbers will not be proposed at this point, but where permit numbers might be headed will be discussed generally.
Public forums were already held on Feb. 14 in Tucson and Feb. 21 in Kingman. After the public forums are completed, final proposed draft hunt recommendations will be available for public review at regional open houses which will be posted at www.azgfd.gov/huntguidelines by April 1. The final fall hunt recommendations will be presented to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission for consideration during its April 13 meeting in Phoenix.
Each year, the department makes recommendations to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission regarding the management of game species for the annual hunting and trapping regulations, which establish the seasons, dates, bag limits, open areas, and hunt permit-tag allocations based on the framework of the hunt guidelines set by the commission every two years.
