Green Mountain Trail to be Completed Father’s Day Weekend

The Summit Loop trail is a popular destination in the park, and is currently only one-way. Volunteer efforts will complete construction of the loop, helping relieve some of the strain on the park’s other trails, and allowing park visitors to experience the trail’s breathtaking views. The trail will be open to hikers and bikers.
When: Saturday, June 18, 2011; 8am-4pm
Where: William Frederick Hayden Park on Green Mountain, Lakewood, CO
Why: Green Mountain Park receives over 250,000 visitors a year. This abundance of use puts a huge strain on the park and its natural resources. This effort will help expand recreation options and ensure sustainability of the park resources.
To Volunteer: Volunteers must pre-register to ensure adequate quantities of tools, supplies, and food. Register via Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado’s Project Calendar atwww.voc.org, or call 303-715-1010. The minimum age to volunteer is 16. No experience is necessary.
Who: This effort is being led by Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, in partnership with the City of Lakewood.

About William Frederick Hayden Park
With over 2,400 acres of open space, William Frederick Hayden Park on Green Mountain is the second largest park in the City Lakewood. A challenging network of multi-use trails are available in the park. The summit, at 6,800 feet, offers unique and stunning views of the Denver Metropolitan area to the east, as well as high mountain peaks to the west.
