Honey Stinger, the leading manufacturer of honey-based nutritional products, opens registration today for the third annual Steamboat Stinger race weekend online at http://www.prerace.com. The weekend features a 50-mile mountain bike race in addition to a trail marathon in Honey Stinger’s home of Steamboat Springs, Colo., August 17 and 18.
Competitors in the mountain bike race can choose between racing solo or as a two-person team, while runners have a choice between a full and half trail marathon. The mountain bike course is over 95 percent on the singletrack trails of Emerald Mountain. The marathon will follow a similar route. Honey Stinger will again offer the King Sting and Queen Bee categories that require racers to compete in both the 50-mile solo mountain bike competition and full marathon events, battling for lowest total time.
“The Steamboat Stinger is our way of celebrating everything that Honey Stinger is about, on sweet trails right in our own backyard,” says Honey Stinger marketing director Len Zanni. “The inspiration for our products is events just like this and we’re excited to bring back the Steamboat Stinger for a weekend of great competition and festivities benefiting several local organizations.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit four local entities including youth mentoring organization Partners in Routt County, the Emerald Mountain Partnership (EMP), local IMBA chapter group Routt County Riders, and Routt County Search and Rescue.
Entry fees for the mountain bike race are $75 for solo and $140 for duo. The marathon will cost $65 for the full and $45 for the half. Entry to the King Sting and Queen Bee competition is set at $130. Field limits are set at 500 cyclists and 400 runners so competitors are encouraged to register soon to secure their spot.
