Hunt for Heroes, Pursuit Channel Renew after Heartbreaking Catastrophe
OutdoorHub 03.05.13
The devastating crash between a freight train and a parade float moving American veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and their families towards a banquet honoring them on November 12, 2012 in Midland, TX remains one of the most unsettling tragedies in American history. U.S. Marine Gary Stouffer, 37, and U.S. Army veterans Lawrence Boivin, 47, Joshua Michael, 34, and William Lubbers, 43, were killed, heroically by all accounts, and 17 others were injured. Midland’s first responders, as well as a number of veterans in attendance, were credited with treating and saving other lives at the scene of the horrific accident.
Show of Support (SOS), the organization created in 2004 that hosts this annual “thank you” weekend, a world-class experience that includes outfitting veterans on complementary deer hunting excursions and a Hunt for Heroes national television component, has recently announced a redoubling of its commitment to the veterans of these protracted wars.
“Shock and grief don’t begin to express the emotions from the loss of these American heroes during our 2012 tribute to them,” said SOS President Terry Johnson. “Everyone continues to find the strength to cope and heal, and an overwhelming consensus leads us to the belief that the 2013 television season of Hunt for Heroes on Pursuit Channel goes on as an ultimate compliment to those who’ve served our country so valiantly; and, now, for those special heroes who were lost last year in West Texas.”
