WALSENBURG, Colo. – Lathrop State Park presents two evenings of music, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 3 at the Piñon Campground Amphitheater. Get out your lighters and prepare for a great night of music! Guitarist and songwriter Jaquie Gipson will share the wonderful sounds of her acoustic guitar. She gains her inspiration from the beautiful Rocky Mountains and the surrounding Colorado environment. Her CD’s will be available for purchase after the show. Gipson is a local favorite, so plan to bring the whole family for an evening of fun.
Then, on Saturday, June 4, beginning at 8:30 p.m. at the Piñon Campground Amphitheater, Deanna Philbin presents a brief history of the Hispanic culture of the area surrounding Lathrop State Park. Her presentation will include hands-on activities, a short Spanish lesson and a discussion of the types of foods prepared in an adobe horno. Bring the whole family and enjoy an evening learning about the deep roots of the Hispanic culture in Las Animas and Huerfano Counties.
Nestled in the shadow of the legendary southern Colorado Spanish Peaks in Walsenburg, Lathrop State Park’s gentle climate, clear air, beautiful campsites, excellent fishing, water-skiing and great views of the nearby mountain ranges lure Colorado travelers and other visitors to the park for regular visits. Lathrop is 1,596 acres of recreational enjoyment. The park has two lakes, Martin Lake and Horseshoe Lake, which offer a variety of boating and angling opportunities. The park also features year-round camping, a three mile paved trail, group picnic shelter, swim beach and the state park system’s only golf course.
