New Hampshire Fish and Game Facebook Fans Top 10,000

If you like being connected with wildlife and the outdoors in New Hampshire and are wired into the digital world, turns out you are not alone. As of this week, more than 10,000 people have hit the “like” button on the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s Facebook page at facebook.com/nhfishandgame.
“Topping 10,000 fans in just three years is an exciting milestone in Fish and Game’s online outreach,” said Jon Charpentier, chief of public affairs for Fish and Game. “Social media is one of many ways we’re working to reach out to new audiences and better serve our traditional constituents.”
Fish and Game Facebook followers enjoy interacting with biologists and other staff members, getting instant news about events and workshops, watching new outdoor videos, and swapping stories and information with fellow fans.
“One benefit of our Facebook page has been the ability to give thousands of people the answer to a question that might in the past have been asked and answered one-on-one. That saves staff resources – and at the same time, spreads the word about the work we do for wildlife and habitat conservation,” said Charpentier.
Fish and Game uses Facebook to highlight important season dates, illustrate the many facets of the agency’s work in the state, explain rules and laws, and answer questions about fish and wildlife. Popular Facebook features include links to weekly fishing reports and an occasional quiz on why species become endangered, highlighting this year’s 25th anniversary observance for the Nongame and Endangered Wildlife Program.
