South Dakota’s Outdoor Campus-West Hosts Renowned Naturalist/Author/Photographer for Bird Hike and Presentation

Game, Fish and Parks’ The Outdoor Campus-West and The Norbeck Society are hosting renowned author and photographer Stan Tekiela for a guided bird hike and presentation on Saturday April 27th.
At 7 am on the 27th, Tekiela will lead a guided bird watching hike at The Outdoor Campus-West. Participants should bring their own binoculars and identification guides, and dress for the weather.
At 10:30 that morning, Tekiela will give a presentation entitledUncommon Facts About Common Birds. “This is a fun and entertaining talk presenting fascinating facts and tidbits about some of the birds that people love to hate,” said Tekiela. The presentation will challenge preconceived ideas about some common birds such as the European Starling, the American Crow and much, much more.
Both of these events are free of charge and open to the public. The Norbeck Society, in cooperation with Game, Fish & Parks, is sponsoring the event.
Stan Tekiela is the originator of the popular state-specific field guides such as Birds of the Dakotas Field Guide. Over the past two decades Stan has authored more than 100 field guides, nature appreciation books and wildlife audio CDs for nearly every state in the nation, presenting many species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, trees, wildflowers and cacti.
Holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural History from the University of Minnesota and as an active professional naturalist for more than 20 years, Stan studies and photographs wildlife throughout the United States and has received various national and regional awards for his books and photographs.
Also a well-known columnist and radio personality, his syndicated column appears in over 20 newspapers and his wildlife programs are broadcast on a number of Midwest radio stations. He is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association and Canon Professional Services along with many other professional organizations.
The Outdoor Campus-West, located at 4130 Adventure Trail, is open to the public seven days a week and has no admission fee.
