Cabela’s Dundee store opens Friday to huge crowd
An estimated 2,000 customers were waiting in line when Cabela’s store in Dundee, Mich., reopened Friday, May 3, at 4 p.m.
John Dunphy, from Perrrysburg, Ohio, was the first in line. He arrived at 10 a.m.
“I told my wife I would never do Black Friday, or any other of that waiting in line stuff,” Dunphy said. “Now here I am.”
Cabela’s employees and outside contractors worked in three shifts around the clock for 10 days to clean and restock the store after a small electrical fire in the early morning hours of April 24. Cabela’s employees working the overnight shift quickly put out the fire. No one was injured and the building did not suffer any structural damage.
All the merchandise damaged by fire, smoke and the spray from the fire extinguishers was removed from the store and replaced with new merchandise.
“The store looks fantastic,” said Joe Ross, Dundee general manager. “What we pulled off is truly amazing. The store is neat. The store is clean. A lot of people are proud to be a part of this.
“We put our house back together.”
Cabela’s will honor sale prices in Dundee for its recent Warm Up With Savings event and its current Let’s Go Camping promotion through Sunday, May. 12.
