How To Hunt Early Season Pheasants

   06.03.11

Hunting pheasants in the early season can be a lot of fun. Even hunting pheasant on public land can be rewarding, but there are a few things that every pheasant hunter should know before hitting the fields.

First, I never go on opening day unless the pheasant itch has me bad that year. However, going back over hunted land the second or third day doesn’t always hurt. In fact, pheasants move from field to field during the day and especially when they are pushed by hunters. So a second look on a pheasant field can pay off. Second, always look for thick cover that may be hard to reach by other pheasant hunters because only the diehards will look there.

Hens are often held up on short grass areas near crop fields. Although they get hunted a lot be sure to hit them because you never know what will be there.
