Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results for the Kentucky Lake/Tennessee River at Camden, Tennessee

This past Saturday May 11th, the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Kentucky Lake/Tennessee River at Camden, Tennessee. In the event over many top anglers from several different states were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2013 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. This year’s Cabela’s King Kat Classic will be held September 26-28, 2013 right here on Kentucky Lake at Camden, Tennessee Be sure to check out our new website at: www.kingkatusa.com. “High waters definitely had the fish scattered making them difficult for the teams to pattern. We did see some of the largest flatheads, (yellow cats) we have ever seen and already look forward to being back in the area for the Classic in September hoping to see some record breaking catches”, said CEO Darrell Van Vactor.
Results for the Top 5 Teams
Taking first place was the team of Carl Morris, Jr of Johnstown, Ohio and Sean Martin of Blacklick, Ohio with a total weight of 89.42 pounds and earning the team $3,000.00. Carl and Sean were fishing a creek bed 5 miles downriver in 28-32 feet of water . The team drifted for a while to catch 1 fish then anchored down to catch 1 more fish for the day. The team was using skipjack to catch their 2 fish for the day which were large enough to give them first place.
In second place was Van Hughes of Stem, North Carolina and Victoria Hughes of Oxford, North Carolina with a weight of 75.46 pounds and earning $1,500.00. Van and Victoria also captured big fish of the event with a 59.15 pound flathead which give the team an additional $450.00. Van and Victoria were fishing right out in front of Birdsong Marina and Resort drifting in 15 feet of water using skipjack to catch a total of 5 fish for the day.
Third place went to Del Clark of Lavinia, Tennessee and Chuck Evans of Huron, Tennessee weighing in 62.38 pounds and earning $500.00. Del and Chuck were fishing the warmer waters of New Johnsonville south of the weigh in site using big shiner minnows in a deeper hole to catch a total of 13 fish for the day.
“Special thanks goes to the T.R.R.A. and Benton Co. / Camden Chamber of Commerce for hosting the event and to Bob Keist and all the staff at Birdsong’s Resort and Marina for hosting the captain’s meeting and weigh in”, said CEO Van Vactor. “Birdsong’s will also host the weigh ins for this years’ classic. Our Classic anglers will love the experience at Birdsong’s and encourage them to make reservations early because they will definitely fill up quickly”, added Van Vactor.
