TV Fishing Host Kathryn Maroun Releases Video Promoting Hookless Fishing

When professional fisherman and host of “What A Catch TV” show Kathryn Maroun fell ill with Lyme disease, she didn’t know if she was going to live, let alone fish again. Fortunately she survived and returned to one of her favorite rivers in Iceland last year for a brief attempt at retrieving her former lifestyle. However, the experience of confronting her own mortality transformed her views of the sport of fishing and of herself as an angler.

In a recently released video, “The Evolution of an Angler,” Maroun takes viewers on a thought-provoking journey as she struggles to balance her love for fishing with her concern for the fish. Maroun also chronicles the past few years from hell that she has lived, as the victim of a tiny tick bite that she acquired somewhere on location while fishing in exotic locations for trophies.

Now in treatment in California, Maroun flew back to her homeland in Canada in April 2013 to finish the video.

“I had days when I worried that the film would not get finished because my health was so precarious. Perhaps it was the film that kept me pushing forward,” remarked Maroun. One of the most popular columnists at “Women’s Outdoor News,” she also wrote an accompanying column about her evolution that included comments about the video from her fans and readers.

Maroun encourages all anglers to watch and to open a discussion about the merits of hookless fishing. “Gone are the days when a bug bite is a nonevent. Bugs that bite are nature’s dirty needles,” said Maroun.
